Ulster Knife Co was a prolific pocket knife maker in the late 19th and 20th century. In the early 1870’s, a group of Sheffield immigrants began the Cooperative Knife Co. in Ellenville, NY (Ulster County). In 1876, a banker by the name of Dwight Devine bought the company and changed the name to the Ulster Knife Company.
The knives that came out of this early period are highly regarded for their quality. Ulster Knife Co. made many knives during WWII for the military.
In later years, Ulster became associated with the Imperial – Schrade Corporation, which further expanded its reach in the cutlery world. Check out my blog post on one of my favorite stag handled knives. Also, check out knives from Waterville Cutlery Co. and Great Eastern Cutlery.
