Premium stock, or stockman knives, usually feature a three blades configuration. Most commonly they feature a clip blade, spey blade and sheepfoot. Sometimes the spay blade is etched with “for flesh only,” especially on Case knives. These multi functional knives were very popular in the American West on ranches and farms beginning around 1900. Stockman knives usually have rounded or squared bolsters and typically feature a serpentine, or a slightly curved shape to the handle.
Sometimes they are found in a gunstock or sowbelly pattern which typically demand a higher price among collectors. Handle materials found on stockman knives include jigged bone, genuine stag and even mother of pearl handles for dressy occasions.
