c.1830 – 1837 B. Oates W R Cast Steel Dirk Sheffield Bowie Knife
Here is a rare old knife! Made by B. OATES of Sheffield, an early bowie knife manufacturer. Blade is marked "B. Oates W (crown) R Cast Steel". The W R stands for William Rex (Latin for 'King") who reigned in England from 1830 to 1837. Beautiful old stag handles. Fancy threaded bolsters. Dirk blade has a false edge and has some snap upon closing. As seen in the pictures, the blade is bent to one side...this could be fixed if you please. Knife measures 5 1/8" closed.
